Texan by the grace of God?

Today I told two separate people I'm "from Texas." This is patently untrue of course, seeing as how I only lived there for three years. I DID move here FROM Texas, but I am originally from northern California, and have lived all over the U.S. and the world. And I'm not sure WHY I tell people I'm from Texas (I do it all the time). Partially because I liked Texas, and like it a lot more since I left and now appreciate much more the down-to-earth sensibilities of people there. And partially, and I'm not proud of this, because it makes people here in the capital of Political Correctness INSANE. They just assume that everyone from Texas is a slack-jawed yokel, and I just love it when they really get started about how "backwards" and "stupid" everyone from Texas is (this has gotten much worse since the election...no comment here on whether Dubya helps or hurts the Lonestar State), and then I pipe up and go "Yeah, I'm from Texas" and watch everyone squirm uncomfortably.

Anyway, this post has no redeeming value whatsoever. I was just thinking about it on the bus.
