Happy Fourth of July!

I love the Fourth of July! I love fireworks and beer and BBQ and flags flying...the whole nine yards. I'm sure that given the affinity of most of America for fireworks and beer we will probably have some good candidates for Team Natural Selection by tomorrow as well...good to know that idiots playing with fire and explosives while drunk is an infinite resource here in the good old U.S. of A.

My best friend bought tickets yesterday to come see me in a couple of weeks. I'm so excited!! We've been best friends since we met in high school and in the past 11 years have wreaked havoc in pretty much each and every state in the Union. Although I would say Texas, Louisiana, Nevada and Florida were probably hardest hit...I'm still not sure we're ever going to be allowed back to New Orleans.

And, in a bit of weird but exciting news, my Grandfather, who is a very religious man, sold his house a couple of years ago and apparently has been wondering what to do with the money he made on the sale. He was going to invest it, but he's really old (mid to late 80's) and apparently he decided to pray about it because he wanted some guidance. And guess what? God told him to give it to his grandkids to help pay for school!!!! So, he told my mom he was sending me a check, and we really thought it would be a couple hundred bucks...he's not a rich man and the house that was sold was in a tiny town in Northern Idaho, not some crazy estate in San Francisco or something. Well, she got the check yesterday and opened it and it is for several thousand dollars...I am totally shocked, but grateful and excited since I think this will allow me to live alone next year rather than renting someone's creepy basement or having roommates who play with matches or work on their performance art pieces in the nude. Anyway...it just goes to show you that having holy-rollers in the family can totally pay off! Hooray for God talking to people who want to send me money!

Happy Fourth of July! I'll be here...provided it doesn't rain...which is looking like a possibility. I guess we'll see what happens, but keep your fingers crossed for me.

UPDATE: It's Noon, and it's POURING.

UPDATE 2: They cancelled the parade, still not sure about the concert and fireworks. It's been thunderstorming and on and off torrential downpours all day. I'm trapped in my apartment with nowhere to go and only a bottle of rum to keep me going...oh well, at least I've got Jimmy Buffett and a half-eaten pack of mentos as well...life is good.

UPDATE 3: Yay...the weather has cleared up and we are going to try to find our way to the fireworks tonight. Also, in delightfully drunky news...Bacardi CoCo Rum is Yummy. Really.
